Wednesday 1st May 2013 – travel & sightsee – sunny :)
A lot better day, cloudy to start but then cloud and sun :) Nice to see the blue sky again. Mag walked to town to visit all her favourite waterfalls while I got up and bought some bread. We left Florac and drove through some beautiful scenery we could actually see for a change! The Cevenne really is a lovely area. We hadn’t gone very far when we spotted a huge vulture sitting on a rock preening and although he moved to another rock he did sit for ages so we could get a good look at him :) We saw more circling up above the craggy hills a little further up. We also saw a Hoopoe :) Drove up to Mount Aigoual (1565m), passing many crazy cyclists on the way! We have been here before but it made a good place to stop for lunch. We even sat out on our new chairs! Drove on to Cirque de Navacelles passing a circle of standing stones which we just had to go and see! Again we have been to the cirque before but it is too good to miss especially when we were passing so close. We were amazed to find that the little restaurant whose car park we stayed in for two nights last time has been demolished and the car park turned into a landscaped area! They are building a complex and car park further back and a pedestrian only viewing point! We were just perched on the edge last time! Drove down the hairpin bends to the village of Navacelles at the bottom and after a cuppa walked to the waterfall and through the village. It is a lovely place. Carried on our journey to Lac du Salagou which looked beautiful as always and the water level is really high (all that rain!!!). There were lots of fishermen and people enjoying the weather even though it was nearly 7 o’clock. It is a bank holiday here today so the weather was very kind! Made the most of the last of the sun by sitting out on our chairs and………they broke!!!! We couldn’t have sat on them for more than 1 hour and mine snapped right through and Mags is bending and going the same way. Bloody nuisance – will have to try and take them back to the Hyper U just down the road and try to get a refund because they were £30!!!! We got internet but the signal was very weak. Just managed to get the weather forecast which is looking good for La Franqui on Friday so we can have a relaxing morning and travel down there tomorrow.

Thursday 2nd May 2013 – walk **** sunny and hot – then drive to coast :)

It was a glorious morning and we enjoyed being able to do our exercises, wash hair etc., in the usual relaxed atmosphere at Salagou. There are not so many camper vans here this time but lots more fishermen and families enjoying what we think is half term. Lots of cyclists too! After a very late breakfast we walked round to the parking place we used last time which is quite a long way. It was very hot and sunny and the spring flowers and herbs were beautiful. We saw a nightingale and a Great reed warbler and loads of butterflies too :) We can hear these noisy birds everywhere but it is more tricky to spot them! We had lunch when we got back then packed up and drove to the Hyper U in Clermont l’Herault and although the customer services agreed to a refund they couldn’t find the chairs on their system and said we would have to take them back to Mende! What a pain, we took a photograph of the broken one with the date on it and will try to get the refund by e-mail. We decided to pay the toll and go on the motorway straight to Sigean and were amazed that it was only just over 3.40 euros! All those journeys when we have driven down through Bezier and Narbonne!!! Went to Lidl at the end of ‘our’ road and stocked up then carried on to Port Mahon and our favourite parking space – there was somebody in it to start with but they moved off and we moved in. Weather still really lovely but after spending a few hours reading and playing cards and it started to rain before we could move the stuff from the boot to the front :( Supposed to be a nice day, and windy, tomorrow.
